About the Summerlee Transport Group

The Summerlee Transport Group (STG) was formed in 1988 in order to primarily support the operation of the trams and tramway at Summerlee Museum. The STG became a charity in Scotland in 1992 (SC020158) .


What we do
The STG provides driver and conductor cover 4 days a week, you can learn to drive the trams at Summerlee on the Thursday night workgroup (More information can be found below)

We also help with the maintenance and servicing on all the trams at the museum as well as tram and track cleaning, this is completed on one of our Thursday night workgroups (More information can be found below)


Driving/Conducting
The STG help crew the trams at Summerlee Museum, Driver/Conductor training takes place on our Thursday night workgroups. Driver training starts with the main service tram (Dusseldorf 392) and then moving on to our heritage trams (Glasgow 1017 and Lanarkshire 53) * A theory test is required to be taken,  a full valid UK driver's licence is required and you must be over aged 21


Maintenance/Servicing
The STG also help with the servicing and maintenance of the tram and tramway, this takes place on a Tuesday and Friday during the day and during our Thursday Night work groups
*** All work done on the trams is approved by the Museum Tramway Technician and the tram is approved for passenger service also by the  Museum Tramway Technician ***


Tram Cleaning
The trams at Summerlee are all cleaned by the volunteers of the STG – tram cleaning takes place during the Thursday Night work group


Summerlee Transport Group – Fundraising
The STG are looking for volunteers to help fundraise for the Restoration and Maintenance of the Trams and Tramway – If you are interested in volunteering to fundraise can you contact us at stgdisplay@gamil.com (All Volunteers will be issued with Photo ID Badges) (THE SUMMERLEE TRANSPORT GROUP WILL NOT DO “DOOR TO DOOR”/“ON STREET” COLLECTING)


Restoration of Glasgow Tram 1245
The STG is also involved in the restoration of a Glasgow Coronation class tram No 1245, for more information on the project  go to www.glasgowslasttram.net
